Professor Lesley Head

SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Professor Lesley Head FASSA FAHA DFIAG is a geographer whose research expertise is in human-environment relations, particularly the cultural dimensions of sustainability and climate change issues. She is Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Melbourne, where she continues to have active involvement in several ARC grants. Lesley’s grant success includes an ARC Australian Laureate Fellowship at the University of Wollongong, where she established and led the Australian Centre for Cultural Environmental Research. She held the King Carl XVI Gustaf Visiting Professorship in Environmental Science in Sweden in 2005-06. Lesley has had Head of School roles at the Universities of Wollongong and Melbourne, and has been Deputy Dean of Science at the University of Melbourne. She enjoys the mentoring and career development work that is central to these roles. At the end of 2023 she will complete a three-year term as President of the Australian Academy of Humanities. With academic expertise in SHAPE disciplines but most of her work experience in STEM faculties, Lesley has unique insights across disciplinary divides and structures.
