SENIOR ASSOCIATE

David Carter is Emeritus Professor in the School of Communication and Arts at the University of Queensland where he was formerly Professor of Australian Literature and Cultural History and Director of the university’s Australian Studies Centre. He has published widely in the areas of Australian literature, publishing history and print culture studies, popular and middlebrow cultures, studies in modernity, and interdisciplinary Australian Studies. He was previously President of the International Australian Studies Association, Manager of the Australian Studies in China program for DFAT’s Australia-China Council, and Visiting Professor in Australian Studies at Tokyo University.

David has been a Chief Investigator on more than twenty individual or collaborative ARC grants across the Discovery and Linkage schemes, most recently on the collaborative Discovery projects Australian Cultural Fields: National and Transnational Dynamics and Genre Worlds: 21st Century Genre Fiction in Australia. He has served on the Humanities and Creative Arts College of Experts (2013-16) and has wide experience as an ARC International Assessor and an expert reader of grant applications both within the University of Queensland and beyond.
