Workshops (blog style)

Outside Opinion offers a comprehensive range of workshops, mentoring programs and retreats on grant development, research and academic capacity building, strategic planning, writing and publishing and leadership across the higher education sector. 

All workshops can be tailored to focus on a specific grant scheme, discipline group or academic career stage.
Workshops may be run face-to-face or online, with breakout exercises and peer-to-peer engagement in either mode.

Length: 3 hours

This 3 hour interactive workshop is intended for ECRs and MCRs. It will provide them with a greater understanding of the NHMRC funding schemes and how they fit in the overall health and medical funding system- improved insight into the "black box" of the peer review system- opportunity to start a draft of a track record statement and/or significance and innovation statements. 


Prof frances shannon

Prof Shannon has extensive leadership and senior management experience within higher education and medical research institutes and is now an Emeritus Professor at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University.

Over her career, she has developed expertise in the following areas;

  • Leadership and management in higher education and research institutions

  • Strong understanding of the national and international research policy environment

  • In-depth knowledge of research funding schemes

  • University administrative support mechanisms

  • Governance and research advisory boards
