Dr Steven Maltby (PhD) provides strategic advice and grant development services with a focus on medical and health research in both traditional funding schemes (e.g. NHMRC, MRFF) and non-traditional pathways (e.g. industry-sponsored). Steven maintains his own professional portfolio including Grants Development Specialist with the Hunter Medical Research Institute and Casual Academic with The University of Newcastle.
Across multiple roles, Steven has developed a proven track record in project management, stakeholder coordination, grants strategy support, manuscript and funding application development and project management. This includes strong experience communicating and working with diverse ranges of stakeholders, including researchers, heathcare staff, industry stakeholders, journals, patients and the public.
Steven’s contributions are informed by his extensive and diverse experience with >20 years in scientific research, resulting in >50 peer-reviewed publications and competitive grants totalling >$1.6M. He initially conducted lab-based research (e.g. basic immunology, infection, animal disease models), before transitioning to clinical research (e.g. severe asthma physiology, drug responses) and medical education (e.g. clinical practice resources, virtual reality training platforms). His experience spans basic through translational and implementation research in a range of health and medical fields.
