SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Robin Goodman is Emeritus Professor of Urban Planning at RMIT University. She was the Dean of the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, a large multi-disciplinary social science school at RMIT, from 2017-2020. Prior to that she was the head of the Sustainability and Urban Planning discipline group from 2013-16. From 2009 to 2013 Robin was the Director of RMIT’s AHURI Research Centre and the inaugural Director of the Centre for Urban Research. She also spent one year concurrently as the Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation. Before coming to academia Robin worked in the community sector and public service in a variety of roles. She holds a PhD and a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Melbourne and a BA(Hons) from LaTrobe University.

Robin is an urban planner with broad interests in many aspects of planning, housing, transport, sustainability and public policy. She continues to collaborate on research projects on issues around housing affordability, social and community infrastructure and strategic planning.  

Robin has always engaged with planning practice and was made a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) in 2015, served on its National Education Committee for eight years, editing its Victorian and Tasmanian journal Planning News for two years and was the Chair of the Accreditation Panel for the New Zealand Planning Institute for a period prior to the pandemic.

At Outside Opinion Robin has provided mentoring and grant development support to a range of early and mid-career academics and worked alongside Professor Peter Phibbs to develop and conduct short workshops aimed at improving the skills, confidence and success rates of researchers.
