Dr Meredith Tavener

Dr Meredith Tavener

Dr Meredith Tavener is a qualitative research whose work delves into the why and the how of health behaviour in order to help effect positive change. She is currently Senior Lecturer and Course Coordinator, Qualitative Methods in Health Research in the School of Medicine and Public Health, University of Newcastle.

Dr Tavener has over 20 years of experience as a qualitative health researcher, conducting and advocating for, authentic qualitative research as an integral part of implementation science. Her work builds on the importance of data and numbers to give context to the people that healthcare professionals are trying to help. Dr Tavener has established an international and national reputation for rigorous and mindful approaches to interpretive research, and ethical approaches to participant involvement.

Dr Tavener’s experience includes:

  • coordinating and delivering innovative online courses in qualitative health methods for post-graduate students

  • conducting qualitative research across a range of health and social science projects

  • consultancy services in qualitative research capacity building

  • Publications and presentations in many formats including journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, reports, submissions and workshops

  • Editorial reviews for a range of public health journals

  • PhD supervision

  • ECR and MCR mentoring in conduct of qualitative research

  • Design and review of qualitative / mixed methods research proposals
