Prof Marcus Foth

Professor Marcus Foth

SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Marcus Foth is Professor of Strategic Design in the School of Design at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia, and a Chief Investigator in the QUT Design Lab and the Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC). He is a strategic designer and computing researcher whose research integrates digital innovation with humanistic perspectives to create public-interest technology that is technically robust, socially legitimate, democratically accountable, and ecologically responsible.

Over more than two decades, Marcus has helped shape successive interdisciplinary research agendas spanning urban informatics, digital civics, and more-than-human futures. He founded the Urban Informatics Research Lab at QUT in 2006, helping pioneer urban informatics as a globally recognised field whose influence extends beyond academia into government, industry, and professional practice.

Marcus has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications. He is a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society, a Distinguished Member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), a Fellow of the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia.
