Emeritus Professor Ian Hunter

Ian is an emeritus professor in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Queensland. Formerly, he was Deputy Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (2012-2024) and of the predecessor research centre, the Centre for the History of European Discourses (2002-2012). He was also an ARC Senior Research Fellow at the University of Queensland (2002-2012) and, earlier, at Griffith University (2000-2002). Ian has extensive experience in providing expert advice on ARC research grants and research centre bids, and running associated workshops, having supplied these services to Swinburne University, RMIT, UniSA, QUT, and the University of Melbourne. He remains an active researcher in the field of intellectual history, where he is an internationally renowned expert. Here, he continues to research and publish widely on the history of legal, religious, philosophical and political thought.
