Emeritus Professor Christopher P. Saint

SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Professor Christopher P. Saint was most recently Dean of Research & Innovation in The Division of Information Technology, Engineering & Environment at the University of South Australia and following his retirement at the end of 2019 was appointed Emeritus Professor. Prior to joining UniSA in 2011 he was Research, Development and Innovation Manager at SA Water Corporation in Adelaide.

Chris has nearly 40 years postgraduate research experience in environmental science, specifically soil and water science focusing on microbiological and chemistry issues. In recent years the focus has been on alternative water supplies and issues such as waste management and pollution control. Over his career, he has attracted more than $20 million in research funding from categories 1-4 as well as significant international funding.

Chris has spent half his career in an industry research setting and half in an academic setting and for the last 20 years this has involved developing R&D plans and strategy with a complementary focus on the needs of industry and academia. This work has created several key long-term partnerships both in Australia and overseas. During this time he has been Director of several International Research Centres both within academia and industry. These roles have increasingly given him experience at mentoring and developing junior colleagues with regard to making important collaborative connections in industry and academia and the writing of research grants and publications.

Chris has served on several national and international committees and boards concerned with planning and setting strategies for focused research outcomes and is currently a Director of Water Research Australia and Dublin City University Water Institute. He has served on several government panels including the ARC College of Experts Biological Sciences and Biotechnology Panel and as a Member of the Department of Industry, Australia – India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF) Advisory Panel.

Chris has published over 200 peer reviewed scientific articles and is currently Chief Editor of the Springer Nature journal Water Conservation Science & Engineering.
